Responding to Global Needs

Making a Difference

Through generous giving and active participation, we join with others to make a difference across our country and around the world.

Synod and ELCA Mission Commitment

Good Shepherd designates a portion of regular financial offerings to support the work of the Upstate New York Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
This is just one of the ways that our ministry reaches beyond the walls of our congregation.

ELCA Disaster Response

The Lutheran Church partners with others to provide a greater stewardship of resources to domestic and international disasters. Through ELCA Disaster Response, resources are distributed for immediate post-disaster and long-term relief efforts.

ELCA World Hunger

During the Lenten season you’ll probably see a table set for dinner right in the church entryway! Funds raised during this “Invite the Poor to Your Table” devotion are given to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal to support the ELCA’s commitment to relief, development, education, and advocacy for people who live with chronic hunger and poverty.

Haiti Mission

The International Village of Hope, a ministry providing schools, health care, food and housing in a rural area of Haiti, is supported with funds, school and medical supplies. Mission trips made by a small group of Good Shepherd members and friends provide unique opportunities to learn and serve.

ONE

The ONE Campaign seeks to raise public awareness about the issues of global poverty, hunger, disease and efforts to fight such problems in developing countries. ONE is Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life - united as ONE - to help make poverty history. ONE is nonpartisan; there's only one side in the fight against global AIDS and extreme poverty. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is ONE of many participating partners joining together in the campaign to make poverty history.

Orphan Grain Train

Organized in the early 1990s to bring help to people in eastern Europe, the Orphan Grain Train now is a “hands-on,” Christian, humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization helping people throughout the United States and in over 30 countries. People of Good Shepherd get “hands on” by helping to sort, pack and ship food, clothing and medical supplies.
